Born in 1972, MIN Jin-soo produced mostly melodrama films with young sensitivity. With a master’s degree in economics, he first worked as an accountant specialized in film tax accounting. After producing the short movie <Secrets and Lies> (2003), directed by his older brother MIN Kyu-dong, the latter advised him to establish a production company, which he did in 2004 with Soo Film. He has produced most of MIN Kyu-dong’s earlier films, such as <All for Love> (2005), <Antique> (2008) and <In My End Is My Beginning> (2009). He also contributed to expanding the spectrum of Korean directors by producing low-budget films made by female directors such as <The Wonder Years> (2007) by KIM Hee-jung and <The Naked Kitchen> (2009) by HONG Ji-young. Also interested in publishing and plays, Min has notably turned a hit musical into a movie, <Finding Mr. Destiny> (2010), after recruiting CHANG You-jeong, writer and director of the play, to direct the film adaptation. The first big success of Jin-soo and his brother was <All About My Wife> (2012), a romcom starring LIM Soo-jung and LEE Sun-kyun that played with the codes of the genre and managed to top <The Avengers> at the Korean box office. MIN Jin-soo is also behind the lucrative series of horror anthologies started in 2012 with <Horror Stories> and followed by two other installments in 2013 and 2016. He paired again with HONG Ji-young in 2013 for the romantic comedy <Marriage Blue>, for which he also wrote the scenario. MIN Jin-soo often takes inspiration from literature. This is why two of his most recent efforts, <Perfect Proposal> (2015) and <Will You Be There?> (2016), were adapted from French novels, respectively “Woman of Straw” by Catherine Arley and “Seras-tu là” by Guillaume Musso.
