NOH Young-seok’s feature debut, <Daytime Drinking>(2008), for which he played the role of eight people, including screenplay writer, director, camera, production, music, and so on, won wide acclaim in international film festivals and was released in the US. Despite the lack of formal training in filmmaking, NOH is a multi-talented artist with expertise in art and even music composition. <Daytime Drinking>, an ultra-low-budget production that cost ten million won in total, does suffer in the degree of technical finish, but is an original piece of work with extraordinary plot that are more than enough to showcase the new director’s talent. The movie was screened in the competition section of the Locarno International Film Festival before moving on to Toronto, Rotterdam, and other stops in the international movie circuit. When it was released in Korea, the movie attracted 300,000 viewers, an exceptionally good showing for an independent film. Five years later, the director returned with Intruders, a dark and comic home invasion thriller that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013. The film also picked up the Grand Prize from the Hawaii International Film Festival. Though still a low-budget effort, Intruders drew notices for his offbeat and engaging atmosphere, and strong production values.
