Born in Seoul in 1983 but having spent some time in Japan with his family until the age of 7, KIM Jae-wook was a musician early on but switched to modelling when he was 17 years old. Just two years later he debuted as a screen performer, participating in the TV show <Ruler of Your Own World> (2002), after which he concentrated on modelling.
He was back on screen in 2007 when he featured in the hit series <The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince>, which brought him fame across Asia. In 2008 KIM served as the ambassador of goodwill for the 9th Jeonju International Film Festival. A feature film opportunity followed in 2009 when he appeared in the drama <Antique>, which was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival. The role, which featured him as a gay chef, earned him the Best New Actor award at 16th Korean Entertainment Awards. Around the same time he also won the Special Model Award at the Asia Model Festival Awards.
Switching between his duties as a cultural ambassador, an actor and a model, not to mention as a band frontman, KIM went on to appear in more films, particularly beginning in 2015, when he featured in the indie titles <Planck Constant>, <Another Way> and <Two Rooms, Two Nights>, the last two of which screened at the Busan International Film Festival, and had a cameo in the period music biopic <C’est si bon>. 2016 saw him appear alongside SON Ye-jin and PARK Hae-il in the big budget Colonial Era drama <The Last Princess>.
