Collaborating with his twin brother, [KIM Gok], KIM makes avant-garde films in a movie language uniquely his own. <Capitalist Manifesto: Working Men of All Countries, Accumulate!> (2004), and <Anti-Dialectic> (2002), which took the honor of new territory selection in the Venice Film Festival, and <Geo-Lobotomy> (2005), which received a Special Mentions Award in the Vancouver Film Festival’s Dragon and Tiger Award for Young Cinema category, to name a few, the twin directors’ works are the most experimental of all independent films. Most viewers may shun their movies as extremely difficult, but their works have such originality that the Venice Film Festival, which has not favored Korean films in recent years, invited the KIM brothers’ most recent film, <Anti Gas Skin>(2010), to the Orizzonti section. In 2011, KIM Gok, along with his twin brother, presented the result of a new challenge by directing <White>, a horror film that was financed by CJ E&M, Korea’s biggest film financier & distributor. In it, KIM portrayed the debut and successes of ‘Idol Groups’ that have taken Korean popular culture by storm in recent years, with the use of horror genre. Instead of employing their unique avant-garde language use, the twins have taken a simpler narrative approach. In 2012, KIM and his brother presented two new short films. The first, <Comedy>, screened at the Jeonju International Film Festival, while the second, the zombie horror <Ambulance>, was the final segment of the horror anthology <Horror Stories> which served as the opening film of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.Less
