KIM Mi-kyeong, born in 1963, began her acting career upon joining Yeonwoo Theater. Her first performance came in 1985, in the first production of <The Chronicles of Mister Han>, a play looking back at the Korean War by combining elements from BRECHT’s epic theatre movement and Korean traditional theater. Just a year later, she made her film debut in <Lee Jang-ho’s Baseball Team> (1986). In 1990, she received the Baeksang Art Award for Best New Actress in Theater. It was in television, however, that she would find the most success, with a first credit in the 1993 series <Love is Helpless>. Although her name is not widely known, her face has become almost omnipresent in Korean TV series since the 2000s and, over the years, she came to embody for many viewers the modern image of the ordinary Korean mother. Most notable among her long list of credits are <Sang Doo! Let’s Go to School> (2003), the Korean Wave sensation <Spring Waltz> (2006), <Hearts of Nineteens> (2006-2007), <Yong-pal> (2015), <Another Miss Oh> (2016), and <The Sound of Your Heart> (2017), the latter of which one of her rare roles as part of the main cast. Meanwhile, her film career was following a similar path, dotted with only minor or supporting roles. Yet, she counts among her credits LEE Chang-dong’s critically praised <Secret Sunshine> (2007), first presented in Cannes, in which she played a store owner, as well as the Joseon Era-set period thriller <Shadows in the Palace> (2007), where she appeared as a court lady. In 2019, she made sensation as the titular character’s mother in the drama film <KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982> (2019).
