A Korea National University of Arts graduate, KIM started his screen career with a number of small roles before finding some meatier parts in low budget fare such as <Flying Boys> (2004) and <No Regret> (2006). His big break came with TV drama series <Coffee Prince> (2007). Two years later, his main cast role in <Take Off> propelled him to stardom, the film becoming the second highest-selling release of 2009, and was named Best New Actor by the Korea Film Director’s Network as well as by film magazine Maxmovie. KIM gained further recognition with his portrayal of a prince driven increasingly mad by his obsessive love for a woman in <The Concubine> (2012). His popularity reached new heights when he landed a major supporting role in fantasy action blockbuster <Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds> (2017), one of the most successful Korean films ever. His character took center stage in the follow-up <Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days> (2017).
