In 1997, at the age of 25, KIM Kwang-sik became active as a screenwriter beginning with KWAK Kyung-taek’s 3PM Paradise and the television drama Snail. He then co-wrote the 1999 thriller Inner Circle and in 2002 served as the first assistant director on LEE Chang-dong’s Oasis. Later, he wrote the indie road movie Open Road (2007) and adapted the TV show Moon River from a serial comic strip. He consolidated his years of experience in 2010 to deliver his directorial debut, the offbeat gangster romcom My Dear Desperado, starring PARK Joong-hoon and Jung Yu-mi. Though not a big hit, the film drew notices for its fresh script and relatable style. Armed with a bigger budget and a hot button subject, KIM released his follow-up in 2014, the investigative thriller Tabloid Truth, starring KIM Gang-woo.
