Born in 1983, KWON Oh-kwang studied film directing at the Korea National University of Arts. There, he met fellow students KIM Tae-gon and JEON Go-woon, with whom he would form the indie film collective KwangHwaMoon Cinema. After his debut <Encounter On The Sea> (2009), his short films <Green Slime> (2011) and <Suffocation> (2012) were invited to various international film festivals. One of his scripts was selected by director MOON Byoung-gon turned into the short <SAFE> (2013), which went on to win Cannes’ coveted Short Film Palme d’Or in 2013. Along with KwangHwaMoon Cinema, he took part in the production of <The King of Jokgu> (2013). After a script doctor stint for the 2014 critically acclaimed <Socialphobia> (2014), KWON made his feature film debut with the quirky satire <Collective Invention> (2015), which had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2019, he moved to more commercial fare by directing <Tazza: One Eyed Jack> (2019), the third film in the Tazza series.
