Born in 1972 in Seoul, KO So-young studied computer science at Chungang University. Switching gears in her career, she appeared on screen for the first time in the TV drama <Love Tomorrow> in 1993. Shortly thereafter she established herself when got her film debut alongside JUNG Woo-sung in <The Fox with Nine Tails>, the first Korean film to use computer generated imagery. Her big break followed in 1997, when she featured alongside JUNG once again in the classic youth gangster drama <Beat>. Directly after that she became a specialist in melodramas, appearing in some of the most notable titles of the late 1990s, such as <If the Sun Rises in the West> (1998), <Love Wind Love Song> (1999) and <Love> (1999).
In 2001 she teamed up with LEE Sung-jae for the marital drama <A Day>, which earned her the Best Actress Award from the Grand Bell Film Awards. Switching genres, she appeared in the action-thriller <Double Agent> alongside HAN Suk-kyu in 2003, and then in the 2006 film <APT> from horrorsmith AN Byung-ki. Her last film was 2007’s romantic comedy <Project Makeover> with LEE Beom-su. Since then, the actress has been on hiatus and married fellow performer JANG Dong-gun in 2010, with whom she new has two children. Though no longer seen in fiction roles, KO still appears on the small screen in guests spots on variety shows and other media.
