E Som, born in 1990 as LEE So-young, kicked off her career as a model, also appearing in music videos and variety shows, and soon found herself on the big screen when she made her acting debut in a leading role in David CHO’s indie drama <Second Half>, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2014. She quickly landed a number of other roles, both on the small screen, in shows such as <White Christmas> (2011) and commercial films like the melodrama <The Last Blossom> (2011) and LEE Hyeon-seung’s gangster film <Hindsight> (2011). Two years later, she featured in KIM Jee-woon’s short film <The X>, the supernatural investigate thriller <The Gifted Hands> and E J-yong’s mockumentary <Behind the Camera>. The next year she teamed up again with David CHO for the drama <Santa Barbara> and then turned heads as the femme fatale in YIM Pil-sung’s erotic thriller <Scarlet Innocence>, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. The role won her many plaudits, as well as Best New Actress nominations at the Blue Dragon and Grand Bell Film Awards. The year 2017 saw her gained wider recognition, first with a supporting role in the period epic <WARRIORS OF THE DAWN> (2017) and later while headlining the KwangHwaMoon Cinema-produced indie favorite <Microhabitat> (2017), which earned her Best Actress from the Busan Film Critics Association as well as from the Wildflower Film Awards. Next for her was the popular feel-good comedy <Inseparable Bros> (2018), in which she co-starred SHIN Ha-kyun and LEE Kwang-su.
