BANDAL Doc is a documentary film production company founded by producer KIM Min-kyung and film director IM Heung-soon. Its first release, IM’s <Jeju Prayer> (2012) addressed the long covered-up massacre that took place on Jeju Island between 1948 and 1949 on the instruction of the South Korean government in response to a local uprising. This was followed by <Factory Complex> (2014), in which IM juxtaposes the poor working conditions Cambodian women endure today in the garment industry to those of Korean female laborers in the 1970s. BANDAL grabbed the headlines in 2016 when its latest outing <WEEKENDS> (2016), which follows a Korean gay chorus ahead of its 10th anniversary concert, won the Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival – a first for a Korean film.
