Luz Y Sonidos is the production company founded by director SHIN Yeon-shick in 2009 to produce his own works. It debuted with the romantic drama <The Fair Love> (2009), SHIN’s sophomore feature, with veteran actor AHN Sung-gi in the lead. This was followed by the critically acclaimed mystery drama <The Russian Novel>, an experimental film that earned SHIN several awards including Best Director from the Directors’ Guild of Korea. Co-produced with KIM Ki-duk, <Rough Play> (2013) was the company’s biggest effort to appeal to a wider audience, as it even offered the lead role to a K-pop star, LEE Joon. However, its performance at the Korean box office failed to meet expectations. Luz Y Sonidos and SHIN then returned to arthouse mystery films with the production of <The Avian Kind> (2014), which received the praise of the critics.
