2NE1’s Dara (a.k.a Sandara PARK) will team up with actors HAN Jae-seok and CHO Dong-in on incoming music drama Echo (working title) which kicks off production this month and is expected to be released within the year. The project will mark JUHN Jai-hong’s fourth directorial outing.
Though known for being part of the wildly successful four-member girl group 2NE1, Dara has extensive acting experience in recent Korean TV dramas, but also in a number of films in the Philippines, where she used to live. Echo will be her first Korean feature.
Though mostly known for his TV work, actor HAN Jae-Seok has also appeared in films such as JANG Jin’s The Quiz Show Scandal (2010) and HIT (2011). Young performer CHO Dong-in was the lead of indie The Stone in 2015 and has also appeared in KIM Ki-duk’s One on One (2014) and the upcoming The Phantom Detective. Echo will also feature CHO Dal-whan (The Beauty Inside, 2015; The Magician, 2015) and HONG A-reum (Makgeolli Girls, 2015).
Getting his start working on the films of KIM Ki-duk, including Breath (2007), for which he was an assistant director, JUHN debuted as a feature filmmaker with Beautiful in 2008, which was produced by his maverick mentor. KIM also wrote and produced his next feature Poongsan (2011). He broke out on his own for his next feature Gifted, which bowed at the Busan International Film Festival in 2014.
