YOO Ah-in Drama Hits Theaters in May
CJ Entertainment’s drama Tough as Iron has booked itself a theatrical run in Japan following its domestic release. Starring YOO Ah-in, KIM Hae-sook and Jung Yu-Mi, the family/romance drama was seen by just over 1.2 million spectators in Korea during its run last October.
YOO appears as Gang-cheol, a well-known street fighter in Busan who puts his fists away when his mother becomes ill. He also pursues a relationship with Su-ji, a Seoul citizen vacationing in the port city. Things are going well for him but soon enough, against his will, he finds himself dragged into Busan’s criminal underworld.
Tough as Iron is the third work from director AHN Gwon-tae, who debuted with My Brother in 2004 and co-directed Eye for an Eye with KWAK Kyung-taek in 2008.
Leading the film is popular star YOO Ah-in, who is well known for his work on both the big and small screen. Among his most notable film credits are LEE Han’s hit comedy-drama Punch (2011), alongside KIM Yun-seok. YOO is also set to appear in the upcoming RYOO Seung-wan crime thriller Veteran with HWANG Jung-min.
Veteran actress KIM Hae-sook has featured in films such as PARK Chan-wook’s Thirst (2009) and CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Thieves (2012). Playing the love interest, JUNG Yu-Mi is a frequent collaborator of HONG Sangso’s, having appeared in his films Oki’s Movie (2010) and last year’s Our Sunhi. YOO and JUNG also lead the voice cast of this month’s new animation The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow.
Tough as Iron is due to grace Japanese screens courtesy of CJEJ (CJ Entertainment Japan) in May. In addition to Korea, AHN’s film also featured on limited screens in North America last year.
