Asia’s first Ocean Themed Film Festival
Asia’s very first ocean film festival, Mokpo Ocean Film Festival (MOFF) is opening soon. Mokpo city is organizing and MOFF board of directors and Mokpo Cultural Foundation will run the festival. MOFF is scheduled from July 31st until August 3rd for four days. It is the first festival in Korea to take ocean as a theme.
Programming will range from documentary, animation and family films in order to provide variety of films that any age could watch. The festival’s objective is to broaden the knowledge and interest of the ocean by the public.
The directors of the festival is YOO In-taek, the producer of May 18(2007) and also the president of the Korean Film Producers Association, with YOON Jin-bo, the Mayor of Mokpo. SON Jae-oh, the executive director of the theatre team ‘Gaet-dol’ will also support the festival as the assistant director.
The festival area will be located in Won-do-sim, and plan to find a space for outdoor screenings for the summer evenings. The festival will be in alignment with the Mokpo Maritime Cultural Festival to provide various types of entertainment and festivities.
MOFF’s poster was released along with the announcement of the festival and is currently in the works to organize the inaugural event. The fish swimming between the frames of a film roll represents the festival’s aim and hope to communicate with the public through film.
MOFF will not only expose the marine culture and businesses for better understanding, it will also act as a catalyst to boost tourism and is expected to bring positive changes to the city’s economy.
