An intern staff, Ji-noo(
RYOO Seung-bum) is ordered by his manager to keep watch on his conglomerate president's movement. One day, he happens to chase a car that comes out of the president's mansion. As the car ends up in a collision with a truck, tow truck driver Na-mi(
GO Joon-Hee) drags the car to her junkyard. Ji-noo, Na-mi, African immigrant worker Yakubu(
Samuel OKYERE) and his Korean wife Jung-sook(
RYU Hyun-kyung) discover bags full of cash inside the wrecked car that turns out to be the president's slush fund. They decide to split the money between themselves, but soon the president sends chasers after them.
IM Sang-soo's
Intimate Enemies is a black comedy where youngsters seek revenge on corrupt older generation. The director, who has always directed films that lampoon the intense social hierarchy and capitalism in Korea, again leaves his signature satire in
Intimate Enemies as well. The powerless, penniless young characters reveals the rich, accomplished older generation's absurdities and evildoings. The African immigrant worker criticizes Korean society for neglecting the foreign workers' human rights. Unlike IM's previous works,
Intimate Enemies is filled with anarchism-driven fast-moving action scenes.
