Following an enormously successful stint in China, where he adapted his own 2001 film Last Present into Wedding Invitation, a hit romcom made specifically for the Middle Kingdom, director OH Gi-hwan returns to his homeland with his fifth feature Fashion King. Remaining within his romcom comfort zone, Fashion King is an adaptation of a massively popular web comic of the same name by Kian84, which was published on Korean web portal Naver last year.
Ki-myung is a high school student who has his heart set on becoming the world’s most dapper gent. However, it is not merely sartorial refinement he seeks, as his true aim is to capture the heart of a classmate. During his self-improvement trials, Eun-ji, another classmate, also begins to upgrade her wardrobe, as she in turn is hoping to gain Ki-myung’s notice.
Following Steal My Heart, JOO Won returns for back to back romcom duties as the hapless high schooler, while kpop star Sulli steps up to play Eun-ji. Also starring PARK Se-young, Fashion King is a colorful high school romp with an appealing premise.
