Small, remote and beautiful, Wi Island has recently been selected as a pilot investment area by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. After a local resident dies in a landslide, detective KANG In-cheol (Jeong) is sent to the island to make sure there was no foul play. Here, he discovers a twisted world in miniature, separated from mainstream society, where no action or emotion goes unnoticed or unexploited. Treated coldly and with suspicion by the islanders, In-cheol accepts a bribe to leave town early. However, on the night of his departure another murder occurs. In-cheol then decides dive headlong into the perverse microcosm of Wi Island, where greed and corruption stand in stark contrast to the unadulterated beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Baek Jeong-min’s 2008 short film <In Memory> was screened at that year’s Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF). <Wi-do>, his first feature, made its world premiere this year at JIFF in the Local Cinema section. Baek has also directed the short films <1972, Gui-han’s Family> (2006) and <Life> (2004).
