  • INSIDE OUT, Pixar’s First Time Ever Going Over 2 Million Viewers in Korea

Animation Studio Pixar had a happy event in Korea celebrating its 30th anniversary. Inside Out exceeded 2 million viewers in only its first 11 days, making 2,307,000 admissions as of July 21. It broke 1.48 million admission record of Toy Story 3 (2010), which had gathered the largest number of spectators so far.

Pixar has built undefeated success all over the world, attracting both adult and child audiences. However, it has been particularly weak in Korea, so its record has been relatively shabby with only 1,326,000 admissons for Wall-E (2008), 1,030,000 for Up (2009) and 898,000 for The Incredibles (2004). Yet because Koreans have a strong tendency to regard the animated feature film for kids only, Pixar animations are somewhat more sophisticated than those of Disney, Its advantage in other countries works as a drawback in Korea.

Inside Out Director Pete DOCTER made Up which managed to surpass 1 million moviegoers in Korea. The performance of Pixar's 15th movie certainly hored up his reputation this time.
