During a particularly slow week at the Korean box office, which welcomed just 1.18 million viewers, Disney’s Zootopia claimed its second weekend crown, despite being on its fifth week of release. With no major new releases to shake up the chart, this week’s top five movies were almost identical to last week and Hollywood maintained its market advantage, clinching 64% of ticket sales.Rising for the second consecutive weekend, this time 4%, the animated hit Zootopia added 358,012 tickets (USD 2.53 million) to bring its five-week total to 2.81 million admissions (USD 18.78 million). The film has a decent chance of crossing the three million viewer threshold but heavy competition is likely to slow it down significantly later this week.Rising a spot to second after a surprisingly soft 30% decline was Gerald Butler-led action pic London Has Fallen, which welcomed another 191,804 spectators (USD 1.37 million) to bring its 11-day haul to a soft 609,927 admissions (USD 4.26 million).Conversely, local crowd-funded hit Spirits’ Homecoming slipped one spot and 47% for an additional 151,633 viewers (USD 1.03 million) as it winds down its phenomenal run. To date, the film has sold a stellar 3.42 million tickets (USD 22.39 million).Down 47% after a disappointing opening was N.E.W.’s Missing You with SHIM Eun-kyoung. The thriller added 137,107 tickets (USD 1 million), bringing it to a lacklustre 551,709 admissions (USD 3.93 million). In its third week, Gods of Egypt, the other Gerald Butler film in theaters, was down 58% for another 66,838 viewers (USD 472,478). After almost three weeks in theaters, the sword-and-sandals epic has attracted 898,531 viewers (USD 6.4 million).
Just outside of the top five, Robert De Niro and Zac Efron comedy Old Grandpa debuted with just 56,680 spectators (USD 397,224) in four days. Though its take was slashed in half, Hong Kong martial arts film Ip Man 3 was still top of the diversity chart, adding 10,241 viewers (USD 75,983), bringing its total to 43,547 admissions (USD 315,439).Business is expected to be improved significantly with the release of the hotly anticipated Warner-DC Comics franchise title Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice later this week, which had a tenfold lead over all its competitors on the reservations chart on Monday.
