JK YOUN Will Be First Director with Two 10 Million Films
Ode to My Father is about to become the first 10 million admissions film of the New Year. According to the Korean Film Council’s Integrated Ticket Sales network, the film has sold 9.69 million tickets as of January 11th. It needs 300,000 more admissions in order to cross the mark. Last week was the fourth week of its release, and on average, the film has brought in roughly 200,000 audiences per day. From this number, we can assume the film will comfortably cross the 10 million mark this week.
When
Ode to My Father reaches 10 million admissions, it will be the 11th Korean to do so and the 14th overall. Since
JK YOUN’s
Haeundae (2009) collected 11.45viewers, he will become the first Korean director to have two films over the 10 million mark. In its first week, the film sold 1.14 million tickets, while during last weekend, 26 days after its release, the film sold another 1.14 million tickets. Because of its continuing popularity, its number of screens has remained close to when it was first released, even as new releases compete in theaters.
