Ko - production in Busan
  • New Park Chan-wook Movie to Shoot Late March
  • by Nigel D’Sa (KOFIC) /  Feb 10, 2006
  • Director PARK Chan-wook's latest project I am a Cyborg (Working TItle) is scheduled to go into production this March and is being billed as a 'romantic-comedy.' Produced by Moho Film, it will be shot on HD at a low budget of US$2.5 million. The film tells the story of the love that develops between a young man and woman who both happen to be patients in a mental hospital. The girl suffers from hallucinations and is under the delusion that she is a combat cyborg. She falls in love with a boy who believes he can steal people's souls with a machine he has invented. Main casting was thought complete when lead actress GANG Hye-jung of Welcome to Dongmakgol and Park's Old Boy pulled out of the project due to overwork. The male lead will be played by international K-pop star, Rain, choosing Park's film for his big screen debut. A replacement for Gang has yet to be announced. The HD format marks a change for Park whose last film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance cost US$6 million. Shooting HD can reduce a film's production budget by 30%. I am a Cyborg (Working TItle) is part of a package of 8 films being financed by CJ Entertainment, in cooperation with merchandising company Barunson. The films will be completed over the next 2 years and will feature well-known local directors like Park. Nigel D'Sa (KOFIC)
