  • PIFan unveils 2010 lineup

The 14th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) has announced a line-up of 193 films from 42 countries for its summer run July 15 – 25 in Bucheon City, west of Seoul.  Among 34 world premieres is opening film The Experiment, starring Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker, a US psychological thriller by director Paul Scheuring, creator of the popular TV series Prison Break

The Puchon Choice feature competition section presents 12 films from around the world including Korean horror Bedevilled by JANG Cheol-su, which screened in Cannes' Critics Week section this year.  PiFan’s Strange Homage section brings three new films by three masters including Gaspar Noe’s latest, Enter the Void, a psychedelic melodrama; Oscar-winner The Secret in Their Eyes by Argentinean director Juan Jose Campanella; and Mr. Nobody by Jaco van Dormael.

PiFan presents three Special Programs:  Fanta Masters – which brings new films by young directors who have screened their previous work at PiFan;  The Imaginarium of Terry Gilliam, a retrospective of the director's early work; and Millennium Trilogy which brings to the screen a series of bestselling novels by the late Stieg Larsson.

In this year’s Retrospective, six restored features by Korea’s master of action flicks in the 70s, LEE Doo-yong, will screen along with a showcase of Japan’s Sunrise animation company, which pioneered robot animation.  The closing film will be Death Bell 2: Bloody Camp by YOO Sun-dong, a sequel to last year’s horror hit.  PiFan’s project market, NAFF takes place July 18 – 22.  The festival website can be found at http://www.pifan.com/
