  • YIM Soon-rye Action-Drama Stars HWANG Jung-min and HYUN Bin

The Point Men, an upcoming hostage action-drama from director YIM Soon-rye featuring stars HWANG Jung-min and HYUN Bin, has been sold to 14 territories by Megabox Plus M.

The film is based on a real event in Afghanistan that took place in 2007 when 23 South Korean missionaries were captured and held hostage. HYUN Bin will play a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent who teams up with HWANG Jung-min’s diplomat to negotiate for the release of the hostages and eventually stage a rescue operation.

As first reported by Screen Daily, the hostage film has been picked up by Gaga (Japan) and MovieCloud (Taiwan), Edko Films (Hong Kong and Macau), Encore Films (Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Vietnam), Sahamongkol Film (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar), Viva Networks (the Philippines), and The Filmbridge (Mongolia).

Megabox Plus M, which recently launched its international sales arm, also revealed that they had been fielding offers from China, as that’s a market freeze on Korean content begins to thaw.

Star of Ode to My Father (2014) and Veteran (2015), HWANG was most recently seen in the summer action hit DELIVER US FROM EVIL (2020). HYUN is coming off the global success of the popular series Crash Landing on You and his recent film credits include Confidential Assignment (2017), The Swindlers (2017), and Rampant (2018).

Director YIM is known for films such as Waikiki Brothers (2001), Forever the Moment (2008), and Little Forest (2017).

The Point Men is due for release in Korea at some point this year.
