  • YOUN Yuh-jung Wins Best Supporting Actress from North Carolina, Oklahoma and Alliance of Women Film Critics
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 08, 2021
  • MINARI Star Extends Win Streak to 6

Veteran Korean star YOUN Yuh-jung continues her winning streak in best supporting actress categories from North American film critics groups for her performance in Lee Isaac CHUNG’s Minari

The actress added wins from the North Carolina Film Critics Association Awards and the Alliance of Women Film Journalists EDA Awards, both on January 4, and the Oklahoma Film Critics Circle Awards on January 6.

Minari focuses on a Korean couple who move from California to Arkansas in the 1980s with the dream of starting a farm. Steven YEUN and HAN Ye-ri play the couple while YOUN plays the mother-in-law who joins them there. The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival last year, where it picked up the Grand Prize.

YOUN has now won six prizes for Best Supporting Actress, following wins from the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards, the Greater Western New York Film Critics Association Awards and Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards. The actress has also won runner-up accolades from the Florida Film Critics Circle Awards and the Indiana Film Journalists Association Film Awards and is nominated in several upcoming races.

The question now is if YOUN will be able to convert this broad support from film critics groups (she has won more prizes than any other contenders during this season to date), into success from industry award groups, including the Academy Awards, to be held in April this year.
