  • CJ Group’s Miky LEE Appointed Vice Chair of Academy Museum
  • by Pierce Conran /  Oct 05, 2020
  • Executive Behind Oscar Winner PARASITE Joins AMPAS Venture

Miky LEE (aka LEE Mi-kyoung), the vice chairwoman of the CJ Group conglomerate which includes the PARASITE (2019) studio CJ ENM, has been appointed as vice chair of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, which is scheduled to open on April 30 next year.

LEE was appointed to the vice chair position by the Academy’s board of trustees. The position had previously been filled by Netflix co-CEO Ted SARANDOS, who has taken on the position of chairman for the new venture. LEE had previously been on the board, which includes notable names such as Jason BLUM, Emma THOMAS, Tom HANKS and Laura DERN.

Long known as an influential figure who wielded her influence to guide the development of the modern Korean film industry, LEE became known to a more global public earlier this year when she spoke on stage at the Academy Awards, after PARASITE (2019) had made history as not only the first Korean film but the first film in any foreign language to triumph in the Best Picture category. The film also earned Oscars for Best Director, Best Screenplay (BONG Joon-ho and HAN Jin-won) and Best International Film.

LEE runs the entertainment side of CJ Group’s operations and has had ties to Hollywood for quite some time, as one of the earliest investors in DreamWorks, the studio founded by Steven SPIELBERG.
