  • Busan Film Festival Announces New Deputy Director KIM Bok-geun
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 14, 2019
  • NAM Dong-cheol Rises to Program Director at BIFF

The Busan International Film Festival has appointed KIM Bok-geun as the deputy director of the festival, a role that had remained vacant since the sudden passing of former Deputy Director KIM Ji-seok in May 2017. Meanwhile, former Korean cinema programmer NAM Dong-cheol has stepped up to take on the position of program director, a role that was also formerly occupied by KIM Ji-seok.

KIM Bok-geun is a film producer who was previously the head of CAC Entertainment, a company that was initially set up to distribute films presented at the Busan International Film Festival, which went to produce the hit disaster drama Pandora (2016), a project that had its international rights snatched up by global streamer Netflix. KIM is also known for producing notable Korean films such as Art Museum By The Zoo (1998), Interview (2000), A Blood Pledge (2009), He’s on Duty (2010) and Almost Che (2012). Among his duties at BIFF will be helping to reinforce the festival organization’s administration, HR and structure.

NAM, who was the editor-in-chief of Korea’s leading film magazine Cine21 prior to joining BIFF in 2009 as the head manager of the Asian Film Market, will be tasked with improving the festival’s programming system based on his extensive experience in the industry and programming sectors. Meanwhile, MUN Hyeon-jung, who has been with BIFF since 2008 in various capacities, was appointed as the new general manager of the festival office.

The 24th edition of the Busan International Film Festival is scheduled to be held between October 3 and 12 this year.
