  • Hong Sangsoo’s 20th Work Gets Screenings at SFIFF

Hong Sangsoo’s Claire's Camera has been invited to screen at the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF). The festival got underway on April 4 and will run until April 17.

Claire's Camera was one of two Hong films that debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last year, along with The Day After (2017). Premiering as a ‘Special Screening’ on the Croisette, the film features frequent Hong collaborator KIM Min-hee as an employee of a Korean film sales company who loses her job while attending the Cannes Film Festival. With a few days to kill she meanders around town and strikes up a friendship with a French photographer played by Isabelle Huppert while also bumping into a film director (played by JUNG Jin-young) represented by her former employer.

Hong’s 20th film, which was shot on location during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, is being featured in the ‘Masters’ section at SFIFF. The film will be released in Korean Theaters on April 25. Claire's Camera was one of three films screened by the filmmaker last year, along with The Day After and On the Beach at Night Alone (2017), which bowed at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The auteur’s most recent film Grass, his 22nd and also featuring KIM, debuted in the ‘Forum’ section of the Berlinale in February. Hong also wrapped a 23rd untitled film earlier this year.
