  • CJ Stages O’PITCH Debut Writers Pitching Event in Seoul
  • by Pierce Conran /  Feb 12, 2018
  • 11 Aspiring Writers Supported by O’PEN Project

As part of its O’PEN project, CJ E&M hosted the O’PITCH scenario pitching session for aspiring film and drama writers in collaboration with the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK) at the CGV Yongsan theater on January 31.

O’PEN is a nurturing project for the discovery of new storytellers that was established by CJ E&M alongside the CJ Cultural Foundation. As part of the project, a creative space was established in the Sangam Neighborhood in Seoul, which provides writing space for participants. The project also offers scenario development support, one-on-one mentoring and location visits, including sites such as prisons and police stations.

The event featured the participation of 11 writers who were selected during the first stage of the O’PEN project in April last year. 350 figures from the investment and production field in Korean film were also in attendance.

Among the 11 participants, seven pitches presented 10-minute long pre-visualizations of their projects while the remaining four conveyed their stories through power point presentations. Following the pitching, projects took part in 84 business matching meetings.

Meanwhile, CJ E&M, along with the CJ Cultural Foundation, announced last year that they were committed to funding the O’PEN project to the tune of KRW 130 billion (USD 119 million), which would see it through until 2020.

The second edition of O’PEN is currently recruiting aspiring drama and TV writers on the O’PEN and CJ Cultural Foundation home pages for the next two to three months. Finalists will be announced in June.
