HIDDEN FIGURES Takes Best Film, Best Story Awards

CGV staged their annual Golden Egg Awards during a ceremony held in CGV Yeouido on February 2. Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok) was on hand to accept his Golden Egg for Best Actor Performance for his lead role in KANG Yun-sung’s Chuseok sleeper hit THE OUTLAWS (2017).

LEE spoke of his appreciation upon receiving the prize, noting that it was more meaningful too him since it came from the public.

Formerly known as the Star Awards, the Golden Egg Awards features six prizes, given to works that have received high praise from the paying public. Winners are picked from five categories, with a further award reserved for the Best Overall Score.

This year, the Best Film Award went to Theodore Melfi’s Hidden Figures (2017), the tale of three African-American women mathematicians who fight for recognition at NASA in the 1960s. The film also earned the Best Story Award.

Christopher Nolan earned the prize for Best Director for his latest film, the World War II drama Dunkirk (2017). Nolan gave his thanks for the award and his appreciation to CGV, for helping to introduce his film to Korean audiences.

In the Best OST section, it was the punchy soundtrack for Edgar Wright’s high octane action-comedy Baby Driver (2017) that triumphed. The Best Visuals Arts category was topped by Luc Besson’s sci-fi opus Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017).
