  • Showbox Holds Joint Korea-Japan Webtoon Competition
  • by Christopher Weatherspoon /  Jan 26, 2018
  • Winning Webtoons Will Receive International Distribution, Possible Film and TV Deals

The hunt for killer content is sparking a contest across the East Sea. Film investor and distributor Showbox recently revealed it will be hosting a joint webtoon contest for Korean and Japanese writers and artists.

The contest, which was announced on January 15, will be conducted in collaboration with Japanese film investor and distributor Asmik Ace and Story Company, which specialize in producing webtoons.

Selected works will be serialized in 80 countries around the world through the Tory Comics webtoon platform. Tory Comics claims to be the world’s first webtoon platform powered through crowd-sourced translations. In addition to webtoon distribution, the competition will also offer opportunities for winning projects to be adapted into films, dramas or animations.

For the competition, judges will examine story and artwork, and look at how each webtoon uses both to tell their story. The competition will allow existing works as well as unpublished works and will accept submissions until March 15th.
