  • KIM Yun-seok Eyes Directing Debut with Stage Adaptation
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 08, 2018
  • YUM Jung-ah Courted to Co-Star in MISEONGNYEON

Top actor KIM Yun-seok is set to make the transition to the director’s chair with the upcoming project Miseongnyeon (Korean title). KIM will both direct and star in the project, while actress YUM Jung-ah is in negotiations to appear alongside him.

One of the most successful Korean actors of the last ten years, KIM has headlined The Chaser (2008), Woochi (2009), Punch (2011), The Thieves (2012) and The Priests (2015). Last year, he starred in the critically acclaimed works The Fortress and 1987: When the Day Comes, which is currently performing strongly on the charts.

KIM first encountered Miseongnyeon (the Korean word for minor or underage) on the stage two or three years ago and has been considering a move to directing ever since. The project focuses on a 17-year-old girl and her strange experiences in the world of adults. KIM will take on the role of her father while auditions have been conducted to search for the fit for the lead teenage role.

YUM has been offered the role of the mother and if she does sign on it will be her third pairing with KIM on screen, following Woochi and 2004’s The Big Swindle. She is known for A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) and most recently appeared in last summer’s The Mimic.

Production is expected to kick off this month and the film is being produced by REDPETER FILMS, the company behind the 2016 hit TRAIN TO BUSAN.
