CJ CGV is set to pioneer a new market with its 4DX format. CJ CGV announced that on December 12, its CJ 4DPLEX signed an agreement with Malaysia’s largest cinema chain Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) in CineAsia. Featuring moving seats and environmental effects, the 4DX venues will be the first of their kind in Malaysia. “So CGV’s 4DX has expanded to seven Southeast Asian nations including Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Philippines as well as Malaysia.” the company said in a news release on December 14th. 

GSC is Malaysia’s largest multiplex cinema operator, with 328 screens in 35 theaters in Malaysia and 73 screens in 12 theaters in Vietnam. By the end of this year, GSC will open its first 4DX theater at GSC Paradigm Mall in Johor Baharu, based on this agreement. With more than 500 shops, GSC Paradigm Mall is the biggest shopping mall in Malaysia, according to CGV. 

Meanwhile, CJ 4DPLEX signed a contract with PVR Cinemas, India’s largest cinema exhibition company, to install additional 4DX screens. The deal is an extension of an existing agreement from 2015 between the two companies. By 2019, PVR Cinemas will open 16 4DX theaters in major cities in India, such as Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Pune, according to this agreement.
