- LEE Joon-ik Wraps Present-Day Drama BYEONSAN

Prolific director LEE Joon-ik wrapped his 13th film in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province on November 18th, just over two months since production began in Seoul on September 11th. Byeonsan (Korean title) features rising star PARK Jung-min alongside KIM Go-eun.The film focuses on Hak-soo, an unsuccessful rapper who, after failing to move past preliminary rounds in an audition show, retreats to his hometown of Byeonsan in the countryside. There, he meets his former elementary school classmate Sun-mi.Following years of indies and smaller roles, hard-working actor PARK rose to stardom through DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet last year. The film, which was also directed by LEE, earned PARK several Best New Actor awards. KIM bagged a similar cross-section of accolades for her role in 2012’s Eungyo and has since featured in Coin Locker Girl (2015) and Memories of the Sword (2015), among others.Byeonsan is a rare contemporary drama for period specialist LEE, whose credits include the blockbusters King And The Clown (2005) and The Throne (2015). LEE most recently stepped behind the camera for Korean independence fighter drama Anarchist from Colony, which was released in June and earned LEE the Best Director Award from the 54th Daejeon Film Awards.Following post-production, Byeonsan will be released domestically by distributor Megabox Plus M at some point next year.
