Samsung Electronics Cinema LED screen technology will soon enter the overseas market. On October 5th Samsung Electronics announced it had signed its first overseas deal to supply Cinema LED screens to Thai cinema chain, Major Cineplex. Major Cineplex is Thailand’s largest cinema operator with 110 cinemas and 668 movie screens. The first Cinema LED screen will be installed at the Siam Paragon Cineplex in Bangkok and will open in February next year. The LED screen will measure 10.3 by 5.4 meters and will offer 4K (4,096 X 2,160 pixels) resolution. The screen will also offer high dynamic range (HDR) support, one of the latest advancements in display technology.

Unveiled in Las Vegas by Samsung Electronics in March of 2017, Cinema LED technology uses a new light emitting diode system that does not require a projector. Cinema LED screens are brighter and more vibrant than those that require standard projectors while also creating the deepest of blacks. In addition, Cinema LED venues do not require darkness because the technology can produce its own light. In Korea, Cinema LED screens have been installed at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul and the Lotte Cinema Centum in Busan. Samsung Electronics expects this new contract to pave the way for expanding its sales channels in other countries such as the United States, Europe and Asia.  “We expect more theaters to adopt Cinema LED technology starting with Thailand’s biggest cinema chain,” said CHO Yong-cheol, president of Thai Samsung Electronics.
