Cannes Competition Titles Finds Global Buyers
Hong Sangsoo’s latest film
The Day After will be released around the globe after being sold to 65 territories. Among those countries will be France, where it will be released theatrically. The film already had screenings in France when it played in the competition section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film is being repped internationally by boutique sales agent
Finecut, who related that its French distributor described it as among director Hong’s finest works. Other distributors bought the title for Spain, Portugal and Belgium in Europe, as well as countries in South America and Asia, such as Turkey and Japan, among others.
The story follows a publishing house boss played by
KWON Hae-hyo whose affair with a co-worker is discovered by his wife. The wife visits his office and confronts a new employee, played by
KIM Min-hee, mistaking her for the mistress.
The Day After is Hong’s 21st film and already his third of 2017, following
On the Beach at Night Alone, which screened in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it earned the Best Actress award for KIM Min-hee, and
Claire’s Camera, featuring Isabelle Huppert and KIM Min-hee, which was invited to the Special Screenings section of Cannes.
Hong’s newest work hits Korean screens on July 6th, where it is being distributed by
Contents Panda.
