  • Jennifer Connelly Boards SNOWPIERCER TV Update
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jun 20, 2017
  • David Diggs and Mickey Sumner Join TNT Remake of BONG Joon-ho Sci-fi

Hollywood star Jennifer Connelly is set to appear in the pilot for the US TV version of BONG Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer (2013), which will be broadcast on TNT. Connelly will feature alongside David Diggs and Mickey Sumner in a show produced by Marty Adelstein/ITV Studios’ Tomorrow Studios, Turner’s Studio T and CJ Entertainment.

BONG’s Snowpiercer, which featured an international cast comprised of Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, SONG Kang-ho and more, became a hit in the summer of 2013 for CJ Entertainment in Korea and went on to screen all around the world, drawing high praise form critics and viewers along the way.

The pilot for the TV update is being directed by Scott Derrickson of Doctor Strange. Josh Friedman is on board as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He will work along side Derrickson, Mary Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios and the producers of the original film, BONG Joon-ho, PARK Chan-wook, LEE Tae-hun and CHOI Doo-ho.

Requiem for a Dream (2000) actress Connelly will play Melanie Cavill, a first class passenger on a train that perpetually circumnavigates the globe as it houses the last remnants of the human race following a near-extinction event that brings on a new ice age. Cavill is the Voice of the Train, whose job is to make daily announcements over a PA system. While most of her colleagues are dismissive of the lower-class passengers at the back of the train she is intrigued by them.

Meanwhile, Diggs of Netflix show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will play Layton Wells, a prisoner who unwittingly becomes part of a boiling revolution. Sumner of Frances Ha (2012) will play Bess, a member of the train’s security service.
