First Joseon Era Drama for Director
Although director
JANG Hun is currently busy gearing up for the release of his summer drama
A Taxi Driver he has already set his next project, which will be an adaptation of the stage play
Deliberation by
LEE Youn-taek.
Deliberation, which was also adapted into a book, follows secret stories of King Sejong and JANG Yeong-sil, a famed Korean scientist and astronomer during the Joseon Dynasty in the early 15th century.
Getting his start under
KIM Ki-duk, who wrote and produced his debut
Rough Cut (2008), JANG went on to score box office hits with
Secret Reunion in 2010 and the Korean War film
The Front Line a year later. His latest work
A Taxi Driver takes place during the 1980 Gwangju Democratization Movement and finds him teaming up with his
Secret Reunion co-star
SONG Kang-ho once more, as well as German actor Thomas Kretschmann. The
Showbox-distributed film is due for release later this summer.
JANG will partner with the production company Hive Media Co-op, which worked on
WOO Min-ho’s
Inside Men and is currently filming WOO’s next work
Drug King as well as the romantic comedy
Wind Wind Wind.
Following the release of A Taxi Driver, Deliberation will begin pre-production and casting in earnest.
