Plan to Operate Samsung Cinema Screen Theaters in the Second Half of This Year
Samsung Electronics’ new business in film industry has become the great interest, because the company unveiled the world’s first LED theater display ‘Samsung Cinema Screen’ at the Cinemark in Las Vegas on March 27th.
In a press release, Samsung Electronics said it had trial performance inviting film and theater industries just in time for CinemaCon 2017, the largest and most important technology exposition for the worldwide motion picture theater. Samsung Cinema Screen is a 445 type (10.3m×5.4m) using 96 LED cabinets with 4K resolution. Thanks to this, the Samsung Cinema Screen is considered to overcome the limits of brightness and contrast that the standard cinema projectors have.
In addition, it has the capacity to offer peak brightness level nearly ten times higher than standard cinema projectors, allowing to show on-screen content in not only dark rooms but also brighter surroundings. The Samsung Cinema Screen can deliver HDR (High Dynamic Range) content to the cinema while it has screen audio technologies of Harman, the audio expert company that Samsung has taken over in late 2016.
Samsung Electronics said it has studied with Hollywood studios aiming to construct environment for HDR screening in theaters and continue to improve collaboration to secure HDR movie content. The first result of the collaboration is Samsung Cinema Screen, and the company plans to operate Samsung Cinema Screen theaters in Korea and the U.S. on trial in the second half of this year, pushing into the global market from the end of the year.
