  • Sony Pictures Korea Reveals Its Lineup for 2017

  • Starts Direct Movie Distribution with LIFE in Korea
     

     
    Sony Pictures, which has restarted its direct movie distribution in three years in Korea, released the lineup of 2017. The official explained the reason for resuming their business by saying, “Korean film market has grown into the fifth-largest market following the North American one. Especially, the number of films per Korean citizen in 2016 is 4.2, one of the world’s highest.”

    Their first film is sci-fi disaster thriller Life, which will be released in April this year. The film portrays that the lives on Mars threaten humanity, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds. Next movie for the summer season is Spider-Man: Homecoming. In addition, The Dark Tower is on the distributing list, which is based on Stephen King’s series of novels and starring Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey and Korean-American actress Claudia KIM

    The most powerful film during the second half is Blade Runner 2049, which returned after 35 years away. The film is directed by Arrival’s helmer Denis Villeneuve and starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. 

    Besides, many movies are waiting to be released such as Edgar Wright’s comedy Baby Driver, horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 4 and Jumanji 2 after 22 years of the original. The list includes animated films like Smurfs: The Lost Village which will be released in May, The Emoji Movie and The Star.
