  • CGV’s Theatre Tech Continues Global Expansion

CGV’s CJ 4DPLEX screening technology is continuing its global expansion. Already available in 37 countries, including recent additions in Kuwait and Canada, the format is now available in Slovakia. The first Slovakian 4DX theater went into operation on May 12th in Cinema City Aupark, nearby the nation’s capital Bratisalva, with screenings of Captain America: Civil War.

4DX is an immersive theatre technology that adds moving seats and environmental effects to the cinema experience. CJ 4DPLEX partnered with local exhibitor Cineworld Plc, the second largest cinema chain in Europe, to launch in Slovakia.

“We are extremely excited to bring this immersive cinematic experience to Slovakia. From the success that we’ve seen at the box office in the nearby countries, we have no doubt that this new 4DX theatre will bring more moviegoers to Cinema City Aupark,” said Moshe J. Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld Plc.

4DX first became available in Eastern Europe in 2012 and is now in operation across Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania. Globally, the format has been installed in 242 theaters, which encompass over 30,000 seats. The company expects to have 50,000 seats available worldwide by the end of the year.

“We are very excited to bring 4DX to Slovakia, with a strategic partnership with Cineworld Plc. With this opening, 4DX anticipates to break more ground in Eastern and Western Europe,” said CHOI Byung-hwan, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX.
