- HITCHHIKER Catches a Lift to Directors' Fortnight

- Short Brings Korean Count in Cannes to 5
On Tuesday morning, the 48th Directors’ Fortnight, a sidebar of the Cannes Film Festival, announced its lineup. Among the listed films, which include Mario Bellocchio’s opening film Sweet Dreams and Paul Schrader’s closer Dog Eat Dog, is the Korean short Hitchhiker by director Jero Yun .
The 20-minute short features LEE Tae-gyu, HONG Seong-il, KANG Seok-chul and SIN Jeong-man. YUN, a graduate of Le Fresnoy (Art & Cinema school), previously earned the Grand Prize from the Asiana International Short Film Festival for his short Promise in 2011. His documentary Mrs.B. A North Korean Woman, a French-Korean production, was also invited to the Korean Competition of the Jeonju International Film Festival this year and the Association du Cinéma Indépendant pour sa Diffusion (ACID) in Cannes.
The other Korean films playing at Cannes this year are PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden in main competition, NA Hong-jin’s THE WAILING (a.k.a. Goksung) out of competition and YEON Sang-ho’s Train to Busan, which is part of the midnight lineup.
In past years, Directors’ Fortnight has selected Korean films such as KIM Seong-hun’s action-thriller A Hard Day (2014), JEONG Da-hee’s short animation Man on the Chair (2014) and BONG Joon-ho's monster movie The Host (2006).
