Korean Talent Wins Out at Asia Pacific Screen Awards

Actor JUNG Jae-young and director PARK Jung-bum were recognized for their works on Right Now, Wrong Then and Alive at the 9th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, where they received the Best Actor Award and a Jury Grand Prize, respectively. Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL’s Cemetery of Splendour took the Best Feature Film Prize at the ceremony which was held on November 26th in Brisbane, Australia.

JUNG has been earning rave reviews for his performance in HONG Sang-soo's latest film, in which he plays a director visiting Suwon (a town near Seoul) to support a screening of his film. His APSA prize is now one of four Best Actor Awards he has picked up for the part. The others came from the Locarno International Film Festival, the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards and the Gijón International Film Festival.

PARK has been similarly feted for his sophomore feature Alive, which debuted as one of the Jeonju Cinema Projects at the Jeonju International Film Festival last year and has gone on to win prizes at the Mar Del Plata (Silver Astor to Best Actor, OBRA Cine Distribution Award) and Singapore International Film Festivals (Special Mention). His Jury Grand Prize was awarded as a combination of directing, writing and acting for the feature.

KIM Dong-ho, the founder of the Busan International Film Festival, served as one of the jury members at the APSA this year.
