  • PRINCESS DEOKHYE Adds JUNG Jin-young, LA Mi-ran
  • by Pierce Conran /  Nov 09, 2015
  • HUR Jin-ho Drama Completes Casting, Goes Before Cameras This Month

Announced earlier this year, HUR Jin-ho’s colonial era drama Princess Deokhye has added JUNG Jin-young, LA Mi-ran and KIM So-hyun to its cast. They join already announced cast members SON Ye-jin, PARK Hae-il and YOON Je-moon and production is expected to get underway later this month.

Based on the 2009 novel ‘Princess Deokhye’ by KWON Bi-young, HUR’s film, which was initially pitched at the Asian Project Market (APM) as a potential co-production in 2012, tells the story of Korea’s last princess, who was taken to Japan as a hostage. Jang-han, a Korean independence fighter, is tasked with bringing back the princess, whom he also loves.

SON and PARK are playing the main roles, while young actress KIM (I am the King, 2012) will play the princess in flashback scenes. JUNG, a veteran performer who recently played the warden in Miracle in Cell No.7 (2013), will play another independence fighter, while LA, who took home the Best Supporting Actress prize from the Blue Dragon Awards for Hope in 2013, will play a woman who tries to protect the princess.

Director HUR, who has worked with SON before on April Snow (2005), is known for classic melodramas such as Christmas in August (1998). Princess Deokhye is one of many films on the way set during Korea’s occupation by Japan, including PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaid and KIM Jee-woon’s Secret Agent.

Lotte Entertainment Co.,Ltd. will handle distribution of the film.
