  • 7 Korean Films Light Up Berlinale

    The 64th Berlin International Film Festival kicked off yesterday (Thursday, February 6th) for its 11-day run. Known as one of the three most prestigious film festivals in the world, along with the Cannes and Venice International Film Festivals, Berlin features a wide lineup of films ever year. For 2014, Korean cinema will be represented by a strong and diverse lineup consisting of six features films and one short. Among those will be a pair of world premieres and three international premieres.
     
    Kicking off Korea’s presence at the fest today will be a gala presentation of Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi blockbuster Snowpiercer. Joining the screening will be director Bong, as well as star SONG Kang-ho and other cast members. Later in the evening, LEESONG Hee-il’s Night Flight will have its world premiere. Following its debut at the Busan International Film Festival last October, LEE Yong-seung’s 10 Minutes will have its international debut tomorrow.
     
    On Saturday, Kelvin Kyung Kun PARK’s documentary A Dream of Iron will be screened for the first time. Menawhile, another doc, JUNG Yoon-suk’s Non-fiction Diary, will have its international premiere. Gina KIM’s Korea-Singapore-Thailand co-production Final Recipe will serve as the opening film of Berlinale’s Culinary section that same evening. Yoon Ga-eun’s short Sprout will begin screening along with other international shorts on Monday.
     
    The Korean Film Council (Chairman: KIM Eui-suk), will be present throughout the festival with a booth at the European Film Market (EFM). KOFIC will also host a ‘Korean Film Night’ in Berlin, which will attended by the Korean filmmakers at the festival, representatives of KOFIC and the Korean sales companies participating in EFM, and other film professionals. This year’s 64th Berlinale will close its doors on February 16th.
