Spy Thriller on Target for Showbox
Showbox’s tentpole summer release, the spy action-thriller Assassination, has set its sights on a slew of international markets after sealing 15 deals ahead of its domestic bow on July 22nd. The star-studded CHOI Dong-hoon flick added to previous sales clinched during the HK FilMart and Marché du Film at Cannes earlier this year.
To date, the film has been picked up by Well Go USA (North America), Splendid Film (Germany), Dreamwest Pictures Inc. (Australia & New Zealand) and by distribution outfits representing no less than 11 Asian territories, including China (Bona Film Group Co. Ltd.), Hong Kong (Edko Films Ltd.), Taiwan (MovieCloud Ltd.), Indonesia (Prima Entertainment), Thailand (Coral Culture Contents Ltd.), the Philippines (Viva Communications Inc.), India (Viswas Film), Myanmar (Colourful Garden Company), and Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam (Dream Movie Entertainment Overseas Ltd.).
The rush of sales across Asia is no doubt related to the success of CHOI’s previous chart-topper The Thieves (2012) and also the presence of superstar Gianna JUN, who appears alongside HA Jung-woo and LEE Jung-jae. Assassination takes place in the 1930s in Korea and Shanghai as a group of anti-colonialist Koreans set out to kill a Japanese military official. The big-budget film co-stars OH Dal-su, CHO Jin-woong and LEE Gyoung-young.
