  • Korean Academy of Film Arts’ Master Class with Director Sylvain Chomet
  • by KIM Hyun-jung /  Nov 07, 2016
  • Meeting an Artist Who Works on Direction, Scenarios and Music by Himself

Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) of Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman KIM Sae-hoon) held a master class with director Sylvain Chomet on October 24th, 7 p.m. at the CGV Apgujeong in Seoul. Sylvain Chomet is a French director and animator who was nominated for the Academy Awards four times. He is notable for his style to write scenario and lyrics as well as to direct.

While Sylvain Chomet was an illustrator and comic book writer, he began to gain reputation when his animated short film The Old Lady and the Pigeons (1997) was nominated for the Best Animated Short Film at the Academy Awards and won the Grand Prix at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. The world has taken notice of him with his animated feature-length films, The Triplets of Belleville (2003) and The Illusionist (2010), and then he made his first live-action feature Attila Marcel (2013).

KOFIC’s secretary-general, PARK Hwan-moon said that “This master class is expected to be a meaningful and valuable time to understand Sylvain Chomet’s unique oeuvre and to talk about his diverse experiences and new project.”

KAFA has been conducting master classes with Saw and The Conjuring series director James Wan and Assassination (2015) director CHOI Dong-hoon besides Sylvain Chomet.
