The Korean Film Council hosted its annual Korean Film Night, in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre in Germany, during the 66th Berlin International Film Festival on February 13th in Potsdamer Platz. KOFIC Chairman KIM Sae-hoon and Korean Cultural Centre in Germany Chairman KWON Sae-hoon welcomed guests, which included festival delegates from Korea and overseas, as well as the filmmakers behind the Korean films invited to Berlinale this year.

This year, Berlinale welcomed three Korean films, E J-yong’s The Bacchus Lady and LEE Dong-ha’s WEEKENDS in Panorama and YOON Ga-eun’s The World of Us in Generation. Taking part in the evening were actors YOUN Yuh-jung and YOON Kye-sang of The Bacchus Lady and CHOI Soo-in of The World of Us as well as both films’ directors.

Among the other 600 or so guests of the night were the directors of the Jeonju International Film Festival (LEE Chung-jik) and the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (CHOI Yong-bae) from Korea, Venice Film Festival director Alberto Barbera, Charles Tesson of the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week, Locarno International Film Festival director Carlo Chatrian, Tokyo International Film Festival director Yasushi SHIINA. Ana Aizenberg of the Argentinian film council INCAA, a representative of the Mexican film council IMCINE and representatives of the Berlin International Film Festival.

Always a popular event during the busy Berlinale nights, guests were eager to take part in the Korean Film Night and were especially complimentary of the food, with some claiming that the evening offers the best spread of party during the festival. Among the famous Korean dishes served were jjapche, bulgogi and galbi.
