A new film production center featuring three stages and post-production facilities will open in Busan.

The South Korean ministry of culture, sport and tourism, Busan metropolitan city government, the Korean Film Council and Gijang County signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday (June 23) to build a film studio in the Ceramic Village in Gijang, the county located near Busan. YOON Tae-yong from the cultural contents department of the ministry, Busan mayor SEO Byung-soo, KOFIC chairman KIM Sae-hoon and Gijang county governor OH Gyu-seok were in presence.

The new production center is known to feature one outdoor and two indoor and stages and digital post-production facilities. Construction is set to begin in 2017 on the 918,000 square-meter land. Three more stages will be added later.

There are currently two production centers located in Busan, both operated by the Busan Film Commission: Busan Cinema Studio with two indoor stages; and 3D virtual production center Digital Bay. Digital Bay has currently provided 3D scanning service for a SONG Seung-heon and Hollywood actor Bruce WILLIS-starring China-US joint venture The Bombing.

South Korea’s second-largest city and the self-styled hub of Asian cinema, Busan is the base of the annual Busan International Film Festival.
