  • by KIM Hyun-jung /  Mar 29, 2017
  • Various Admissions in Price

There were days when we paid for movie tickets just regarding weekdays or weekends, early morning or not. Nowadays, prices differ depending on days, time zone, seat locations, screening formats and theaters. Choices are from USD 5.4 (KRW 6,000) to USD 36 (KRW 40,000).

The cheapest way to watch a movie is to get an early bird discount. Regular ticket price is USD 5.4 (KRW 6,000) and that of 3D is USD 7.2 (KRW 8,000) on the average. However, admissions during weekday prime hours are USD 8 (KRW 9,000) for regular films and USD 9.9 (KRW 11,000) for 3Ds, respectively. At weekend prime time, it costs USD 9.9 (KRW 11,000) and USD 10.8 (KRW 12,000) respectively. With this baseline, the price is lower or higher depending on the seat sections.

Different formats of screening or theater increase ticket price. During weekend prime hours, the entrance fees for ScreenX, CJ CGV’s multi-projection system, is USD 11.7 (KRW 13,000) while admission for Starium with wide screens costs USD 10.8 (KRW 12,000). Ticket price for 3D is about two dollars more. During the weekend prime time, tickets of IMAX cost USD 12.6 (KRW 14,000) for 2D and USD 17 (KRW 19,000) for 3D.

Meanwhile, there are premium theaters offering less number of luxurious seats and better service. Ticket price of CJ CGV’s Gold Class is USD 31.4 (KRW 35,000), while that of Tempur Cinema, famous for its tempur beds, is USD 36 (KRW 40,000) only for a film without a meal of CINE de CHEF. (Ticket price of Tempur Cinema in Busan is USD 27, KRW 30,000) Admission of MEGABOX’s The First Club, similar to Gold Class, costs USD 27 (KRW 30,000).
